FOUR new coronavirus deaths have been recorded at Oxford Trust over the weekend, the latest official figures show.

NHS England figures show 205 people had died in hospital at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as of 5pm on Sunday.

That was an increase of four compared to Friday, when there were 201. It means there have been eight deaths in the past week, up from four the previous week.

The victims were among 4,313 deaths recorded across the South East.

The number of recorded coronavirus cases in Oxfordshire increased by 190 over the weekend, official figures show.

Public Health England figures show that 10,309 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by 9am today in Oxfordshire, up from 10,119 the same time on Friday.

The health body is now including Pillar 2 tests – those carried out by commercial partners – alongside Pillar 1 tests, which are analysed in NHS or PHE laboratories and which made up the first stage of the Government's mass testing programme.

The rate of infection in Oxfordshire now stands at 1,491 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the England average of 2,490.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 40,356 over the period, to 1,629,657.

Oxfordshire's cases were among the 134,734 recorded across the South East, a figure which rose by 5,381 over the period.

Oxford University Hospitals Trust was caring for 58 coronavirus patients in hospital as of last Tuesday. The county is to go into Tier 2 on Wednesday when the national lockdown ends.
