CHEFS at an Oxford pub have been busy during lockdown keeping customers supplied with their ever popular signature dish.
Since opening six years ago, The Chester Arms, in East Oxford, has done a roaring trade in steak platters – with diners coming from far and wide to try the enormous sharing plates of perfectly-cooked onglet steak and chips.
When the first lockdown hit, owners Beccy Webb and Hamzah Taynaz closed the doors of their Chester Street hostelry, but such was the demand for the platters this time round, they began offering takeaways – and business has boomed.

Mr Taynaz said: “We are a real community pub and have wonderful, loyal customers who have been keen to support us. Many of them said they were really missing their steak platters as well as our fish and chips and Sunday roasts – which we are also very proud of.
"We are really grateful for their support and are also happy to help keep spirits high by serving takeaways.”
The Chester is now preparing to fully reopen under the new tier system which could require customers to order a substantial meal with their drinks – all of which is good news for the pub.
Mr Taynaz added: “People miss their comfort food – and we are only too happy to help!”
- Takeaways are available on Friday and Saturday, with roasts on Sunday.
