A THUG who repeatedly punched and kicked his partner during a drink-fuelled onslaught of violence has been jailed.

Despite being bailed for that attack and told not to see his victim again Daniel Huntley again exploded into violence and began punching her in the face after they met up for a second time.

A court heard that the 32-year-old of Bucknell Road, Bicester, had been placed on furlough and this had led to a spiral of drinking and aggression.

Huntley had already admitted two count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was sentenced for those attacks - both carried out on on his then-partner - at Oxford Crown Court today.

Outlining the case Cathy Olliver, prosecuting, said the first episode of violence took place at the woman's home in Bicester on August 15 this year.

Huntley and his victim had been in a relationship for about five months.

Bicester Advertiser:

It was said that after he was put on furlough he began spending more time at home and began drinking and became more 'angry and aggressive.'

They had both been drinking on the day of the first attack and an argument ensued, which culminated in a repeated violent attack by Huntley.

During that onslaught the victim was kicked about five times while on the floor and was also punched in the face.

The woman ran out of the house and screamed for help before a neighbour heard her calling out.

Huntley was interviewed and released on bail but with a condition not to contact the woman.

Despite this, he met up with her again on September 13 at his home.

He had been drinking that night and when he became upset due to an unrelated matter the woman tried to calm him down, which led him to lash out in a second outburst of violence.

In that incident the woman was repeatedly punched in the face before fleeing.

When Huntley was interviewed for that incident he blamed his victim and said that it was 'her fault.'

In mitigation Gordana Turudija-Austin, defending, said that her client had worked all his life as a scaffolder.

She said that in the wake of the first lockdown earlier this year Huntley was put on furlough and that this made him feel 'frustrated' and he started drinking.

She added: "Both the defendant and complainant were extremely drunk certainly on the first occasion."

Sentencing, Recorder Peter Guest said: "I have no doubt that this offending is so serious that only a custodial sentence is appropriate.

"In this case an appropriate punishment can [only] be achieved by immediate custody."

For the first assault Huntley was jailed for 30 weeks and for the second attack he was jailed for 10 weeks, which were made consecutive, totalling 40 weeks.

He must also pay a victim surcharge.
