MORE than 100 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Oxfordshire in a day, with increasing numbers of patients in hospital with Covid.

It comes as Oxford is moved to Tier 2 of Government restrictions.

According to Public Health England, as of 9am, these are the number of new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours;

  • Oxford - 18
  • Oxfordshire - 103
  • UK - 23,065

The total coronavirus cases since the pandemic started;

  • Oxford - 2,081
  • Oxfordshire - 6,720
  • UK - 965,340

Cumulative case counts include patients who are currently unwell, have recovered and those that have died.

A further people 280 people were reported to have died within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test.

It takes the confirmed UK death toll to 45,955.

Separate NHS England figures released today showed there were 25 patients with Covid at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH), which runs the John Radcliffe, as of 8am on Tuesday.

This is up from 16 at the same time last week and is the highest since at least August, which is as far back as public trust-level records go.

No patient was on ventilation as of Tuesday morning, compared with one last week.

There have been three deaths of patients with coronavirus at the trust this month, with the most recent announced on Wednesday.

They are the first at OUH since early July and take the official Covid-19 death toll at the trust to 185.
