A VILLAGE primary school has closed due to a lack of staff available to open the school safely.

Some staff at Chesterton C of E Primary School, near Bicester, have either been displaying symptoms and awating test results, isolating as a result of contact in school or isolating as a result of contact tracing.

The school also has two confirmed positive cases of coronavirus, one of which is a member of staff, meaning some pupils have to self-isolate for 14 days.

Headteacher Iain Homer said on the school's website: "I appreciate that this will cause inconvenience for many of you, but the health and safety of our pupils, staff and wider school community has to come first.

"Myself and the staff are deeply frustrated and saddened that we are in this situation and look forward to being back on track after half-term."
