A patient who tested positive for coronavirus died in hospital in Oxfordshire this weekend.

It is the first new virus-related death at one of the county's hospitals in more than three months.

According to NHS England data released today, the patient died on Saturday at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the John Radcliffe.

It takes the trust's Covid death toll to 183, with the most recent fatality before this on July 4.

The patient was one of a further 76 people, who tested positive for Covid-19, announced by NHS England to have died in hospital as of 4pm on Sunday.

It brings the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 31,047.

Patients were aged between 47 and 99 years old.

All except one (aged 85) had known underlying health conditions.

Date of death range from October 9 to 18.

It follows a rise in cases across the country, as well as in Oxfordshire. 

All districts in the county are at 'red alert', meaning there has been a weekly infection rate of more than 50 cases per 100,000 people.
