A BUILDING featuring an 'unusual bulge' will be built onto a car park at an Oxford industrial estate.

The two storey office building will be built on a car park at a part of Osney Mead industrial estate, off Botley Road.

The car park, behind rental car firm Europcar and an electricity substation on Ferry Hinksey Road, will be cleared of some small outbuildings to make way for the new block.

The L-shaped building would also have room for eight car parking spaces and room for 70 bicycles next to them.

Plans for the new office were approved by Oxford City Council's west area planning committee on Tuesday night.

Committee member Mike Gotch asked why design drawings of the block had an 'unusual bulge' protruding out the side.

A planning officer told him this was just a design choice, and that inside the bulge would be an empty void space.

The plans were similar to one approved by the council last year, but changes to the plans which meant the office would be larger, meant it needed new approval.
