A STREET light next to the wooded area where a woman was violently raped is broken.
The light, which illuminates a sign, is not working and has been damaged, a report to Oxfordshire County Council said.
Taking to Fix My Street at 10.57pm on Tuesday, an anonymous resident shared photographs of the faulty light on Abingdon Road.
They said: “Illuminated road traffic signs lights not working and damaged.”
The photographs show the usually busy main road empty and unlit.
In one photograph the flash of the camera lights up the pole and just two distinct headlights can be seen in the darkness.
Two weeks ago, police officers cordoned off the coroner of Gordon Woodward Way, opposite the Travelodge, after a woman was dragged into the wooded area and raped.
Oxfordshire County Council said it was unable to log the complaint because it still required very specific details.
Replying at 10.31 on Wednesday, it said: “Thank you for your report, to enable us to log the fault to the correct unit can you please advise using the attached map the street light number you are referring to.
"If the unit is not on the map this would not be owned/maintained by Oxfordshire County Council and would need to be reported to the developer/landowner direct. Unfortunately we do not keep records of private lights.”
