DEDICATED volunteers were treated to a royal-worthy treatment at one of Oxford's beloved cafes Za’atar Bake.

More than 60 people from Oxford Hub charity attended the re-launch party of the Cowley business on Tuesday.

Owner of the speciality bakery Mahmoud Al-Hadad cooked up a feast and organised music and drinks for the volunteers to say 'thank you' for their work.

Mr Al-Hadad said: "We believe that it is time to give back to them and to say thank you for the amount of work they have given the community during the lockdown period.

"They have sacrificed their time and energy to help the local homeless, those with mental health problems, and other people who are in need."

The re-launch party was not opened for the public as Mr Al-Hadad explained he wanted to maintain social distancing guidelines.

During lockdown the Arabic eatery on Cowley Road reopened for takeaways only and in July, after the Prime Minister eased coronavirus restrictions, it welcomed hungry customers for sit-down meals for the first time in months.

The cafe gave away more than 60 kilos of sweet baklava to raise money for Oxford’s coronavirus heroes – volunteers from the Oxford Hub.
