TWO workers at the BMW Mini plant have been sent home over coronavirus fears, it is understood.

One employee was diagnosed with Covid-19, and the other was asked to self-isolate after being in contact with the first, the Oxford Mail has been told.

Two workers contacted the Oxford Mail this week to raise concerns, with one saying: "We feel unsafe at work."

The Mini Plant said that the health and safety of its workforce is the company's 'number one priority'.

A spokesman went on: "Before the re-start of production we implemented a wide range of practical steps, as well as enhanced personal hygiene and cleaning routines, which will remain in place.

"We are following all of the latest Government health and safety guidance and have issued clear instructions and given training about these measures, the required new behaviours and what to do if people are symptomatic.

"The measures are there to make sure that the risk of any transmission of infection is minimised.

"Anyone with symptoms of the virus - or who should be self-isolating - should not be at work.

"Anyone who does present with symptoms will be sent home and instructed to get tested.

"We continue to monitor the situation on a daily basis in the best interests of everyone working on site."
