HUGE queues were spotted as the McDonald’s store in Witney reopened yesterday.

The fast food store, in Ducklington Lane, was even reportedly closed for half an hour due to the build up of traffic.

This however has been denied by McDonald’s.

Concerns have also been raised about safety, with the number of cars blocking the road, whilst others lamented the amount of rubbish left by customers.

A McDonald’s spokesperson said: “With restaurant teams adjusting to new procedures to enable safe working and social distancing, things may take a little longer in our newly opened restaurants, and as expected demand has been very high.

“The team at Witney had experienced members of staff to manage the queues at the drive-thru lane and, at times it was deemed necessary to limit the number of cars that could access our car park and drive-thru lane at Witney to help avoid traffic overspill.

“We are continuing to work with the police and local authority on managing the traffic around Witney, and would like to thank our customers for their continued patience and support.”

168 drive-thrus reopened yesterday in the UK, with three in Oxfordshire.

In addition to Witney, the two other stores are in Banbury.

Stores are opening with reduced hours, and with a reduced menu.
