AN effigy of Concorde was bizarrely burned down during a bonfire and fireworks display in Oxfordshire in November 1976.
More than 1,000 people enjoyed the annual display which was held in Kinecroft, Wallingford.
The event, organised by the Wallingford Round Table, also saw an effigy of the turbojet offered to the flames.
The Oxford Mail wrote at the time that 'Anglo-French relations should not suffer' and 'it just happened that the huge model aircraft' was available to be destroyed.
There was also a Guy Fawkes and children's art competition at the event.
Pictured is eleven-year-old Karen Starck who created her own display with sparklers.
