A DANCE school in Bicester is hoping to get as many people dancing in their homes next month to set a new world record and fundraise for the NHS.

Done For You Dance wants to set a Guinness World Records title for the most users to take an online Jazz dance lesson in 24 hours on Wednesday, May 6.

Dancers of all ages and abilities from dance schools across the world are invited to take part in the world record attempt being the first of its kind.

Although joining the class is free, people are invited to make a donation which will go towards funding the World Record attempt and the NHS as the challenge takes place on National Nurses Day.

Hayley Byrd, owner of Done For You Dance, said: "My pupils are really missing their dance classes due to the coronavirus lockdown. And I wanted to show our gratitude to the NHS so I thought about what challenge I could set to get them and other dancers involved in a joint experience."

“A virtual dance class is fun and suitable for everyone to join in. We’re asking for donations from participants and local businesses to help pay for the world record attempt and whatever else we raise on top will be donated to the NHS. So the more we raise, the better."

Elite dance school pupil, 14-year-old Daisy, said: “It’s amazing to have this exciting Guiness World Record attempt to look forward to being part of, at this current strange time.

"I miss my dance friends but I am very grateful to be able to dance with them virtually, it makes me happy. We are raising funds for a great cause, which is extra special to me as I have family members who work in the NHS.”
