A FORMER presenter of famous children's TV show Blue Peter paid a visit to pupils near Oxford.

Chandlings School described Konnie Huq's visit last week as 'engaging and inspirational'.

The private school near Kennington welcomed the presenter-turned-author on Friday, and she led various activities including comic book writing and an explosive science experiment creating Mentos fountains.

She also read extracts from her new children's book Cookie, about a nine-year-old girl and her experiences with school and science.

Children from Chandlings were joined by pupils from Dry Sandford Primary School near Abingdon for Ms Huq's morning of fun.

Her talk was arranged by the school's librarian Nina Brown and Abingdon shop Mostly Books.

The shop's owner Sarah Dennis said: "We were so excited to be bringing Konnie to Abingdon.

"She was an inspiration on Blue Peter and is just full of energy, so we knew that she would do a great job of getting children excited about both books and science.

"Author events are a massive part of what we do at Mostly Books and we love it."

Librarian Ms Brown added: "We are privileged to be able to have authors visit us at Chandlings.

"They really inspire the children by bringing the craft of writing off the page and into the children’s day to day life.

"They make reading and writing accessible to all."
