AN Abingdon-based software company has said it is abiding by World Health Organisation guidelines over concerns about the spread of Coronavirus.

Security software firm Sophos has said it is taking extra precautions to reduce the risk of contamination, as a company that deals with international clients.

It comes after an anonymous caller to the Oxford Mail said he had heard that staff had been sent home from the Sophos Headquarters in Abingdon earlier today, over fears about the Coronavirus.

The Oxford Mail contacted Sophos several times to ask for more information.

A member of staff said the Abingdon office remained open and the company was abiding by World Health Organisation guidance on the issue.

It is understood that some staff have been working from home today.

Tilly Travers, Sophos PR manager, said: "The Abingdon office is open. At this time, we don’t have anything further to add."
