A CRASH caused a 10-mile queue and hours of disruption on the A34 this evening.

A lorry and car collided on the northbound road on the approach to the Wendlebury Interchange, near Bicester.

Traffic shown on Google Maps at 5.30pm indicated that congestion was tailing back for 10 miles, all the way past Botley Interchange.

Oxfordshire County Council tweeted about the collision shortly before 5pm, and said emergency services were on scene.

Bicester Advertiser:

Traffic shown on Google Maps at 5.35pm

There had been slow traffic in the area prior to the collision, due to emergency pothole repairs on the M40 at Wendlebury.

It is not yet clear if anyone has been injured.

By 7.45pm, traffic had eased significantly but was still tailing back to Pear Tree.

Highways England said the lengthy closure was due to a 'spillage' caused by the collision, which had to be treated before the road was declared safe.

One driver said people were stuck for almost an hour while trying to exit Kidlington Sainsbury's, with standstill traffic due to congestion at Pear Tree.

Another of Oxfordshire's busiest roads, the A40, was also severely congested this evening due to a collision at Barnard Gate.

All lanes on the A40 have since reopened.
