TWO of Oxford's biggest bands, Supergrass and Foals have been revealed this morning as the big names for the county's Wilderness Festival.

The bands top the bill for the 10th instalment of the event, held at Cornbury Park, near Charlbury.

Also playing the event are Kidlington reggae legend David Rodigan & The Outlook Orchestra, Mercury-nominated South London rapper Loyle Carner, 'Milkshake' star Kelis, BICEP live, Elder Island and Jayda G.

Food is a big part of the festival, held from Thursday 30th July – Sunday 2nd August 2, and this year will feature feasts prepared by chefs Richard Corrigan, Skye Gyngell, Fergus Henderson and Trevor Gulliver.

Supergrass

North Oxford band Foals are one of the biggest live acts in the world, headlining festivals and playing sold out shows everywhere from New York to Sydney.

The band of Yannis Philippakis, Jimmy Smith, Edwin Congreave and Jack Bevan met in Oxford and began their career in the city - playing small venues like The Cellar off Cornmarket, Truck Festival in Steventon, and the O2 Academy, in Cowley Road.

This is the only local show to have been announced this year and will see them celebrating the release of the second part of their new album ‘Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost‘.

It follows a highly acclaimed headline show at Truck Festival last year and a triumphant headline show at Wilderness's former sister festival Citadel.

Wheatley band Supergrass – Gaz Coombes, Mick Quinn, Danny Goffey, and Rob Coombes – announced their reunion last year, and have already kicked off a tour of Europe and the USA.

Wilderness is the only local show announced so far. Prior to the announcement, the closest shows to Oxford were Coventry, Birmingham, Windsor Racecourse and London.

The festival has acquired a reputation for freewheeling creativity with big name actors and comedians dropping in for impromptu appearances and readings.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Russell Brand are previous guests of its Letters Live event, which returns this year.

Other favourites returning include a Lakeside Spa, Wellbeing in the Wild, wild swimming, horse riding, boating, medicine walks, bike rides, disco dodgeball, syncronised disco, sock wrestlingand a  fun Wilderness cricket match. And for fans of Harry Potter, Muggle quidditch!
