VERBAL warnings were given to four men suspected of begging at lunchtime in Kendal today.
Officers attended Highgate at around 12.50pm to deal with the incident.
A Cumbria Constabulary spokesman said: "Officers have a number of options to deal with suspected begging and on this occasion the verbal warnings were deemed appropriate and proportionate.
"We work closely with partners to ensure people who are legitimately sleeping rough are supported and referred to the correct organisations.
"If people suspect someone to be falsely homeless and begging then call police on 101."
