THE latest update on people with dementia in Oxfordshire has revealed those with the condition could hit more than 10,000 within a decade.

Between 2017/18 and 2018/19, the number of people of all ages registered with dementia at GP practices in the county increased from 5,579 to 5,869.

The prevalence of dementia in Oxfordshire increased from 0.75 per cent to 0.77 per cent of GP registered patients, which was in line with the England average.

It added that given the latest estimate of dementia diagnosis rate, there were around 8,500 older people living with diagnosed and undiagnosed dementia in Oxfordshire.

Based on population growth, the report said this was expected to increase to 10,500 by 2027.

The document, published last month, was produced by the government's Joint Strategic Needs Assessment, which creates yearly reports about the Oxfordshire population as well as 'bitesize' updates on particular health topics.
