A LATE penalty gave Watlington Town a hard-fought 3-2 win at Drayton in Division 1 of the North Berks League, writes RICHARD UNDERWOOD.

Watlington went in front with their first chance when Darren Outen fired home, before the hosts drew level as Josh Dennis pounced on a loose ball to score.

In the second half, Dennis scored his second to put Drayton in front, but the lead did not last long as Jon Little thundered a shot through a crowd of players.

With time running out, Kevin Hudson was brought down in the box by Drayton defender David Craig, which led to Martin Williams drilling home the penalty to secure Watlington the three points.

Berinsfield stayed top after a 3-1 win at Long Wittenham.

Charlie Lee scored twice, with Chris Murphy adding a third from the spot, while Callum Bowler replied for the hosts.

Hagbourne United hammered visitors Cholsey United 6-1 with Kieran Cooper (2), Jack Kitchener, Ross McDonald, Lewis Noble and Jake Lee on the mark.

Cholsey replied through Josh Boult.

In Division 2, Saxton Rovers Res thrashed Marcham 7-0.

Connor Spraggs led the way with a double, while Michael Smith, Archie Smith, Josh Harper, Charlie Boyce and Ryan Johnson were also on target.

George Lee and Josh Woodley bagged braces for Marcham Res as they hammered Uffington United 6-0 in Division 3.

Dan Bond and Alfie Kingsbury were also on target.

  • STEVENTON reached the second round of the North Berks Charity Shield with a 5-2 win over North Oxford.

Alex Dawson hit a hat-trick, while Joel Akrill added a brace.

North Oxford hit back through Charlie Appiah (2).

CHRIS Laurence was the hero for Bampton United as his treble saw them to a 5-2 win over Wootton Sports in the second round of the Witney & District FA’s Fred Ford Cup.

Kieron Colley and Karl Pritchard were also on target for the home side, with Wootton replying through Phil Stringer and Dale Rowland.

Goals from Josh Lathey and Luke Bolley saw Tower Hill to a 2-0 win over Milton.

In the Premier Division, Carterton Rangers cruised to a 3-0 win at Spartan Rangers.

Steve Murphy led the way with a brace, with Jamie MacDonogh also on the mark.

Carterton Town A brushed aside Minster Lovell by the same scoreline.

Nick Paton and Sean O’Donnell, plus an own goal, secured Carterton the points.

Hailey Res saw off visitors Chadlington 3-1 in Division 1.

Reuben Wertheim netted twice, with Josh Edwards grabbing the third.

Chadlington hit back through Alfie Peachey.

In Division 2, a treble for Mitchell Faulkner saw Charlbury Town Res to a 3-2 win over visitors Ducklington.

Sam Duthie and Ed Smith replied for Ducklington.

In Division 3, Bletchingdon ran out 5-0 winners at Kingham All Blacks Res.

Doubles for Richard Wells and Jamie Hudson, plus a fifth goal from Chris Fennell, secured the points.
