A PRIMARY school could grow by 50 per cent to meet demand caused by new housing.

Oxfordshire County Council has launched consultation on plans to expand Hanborough Manor CE Primary School, in Long Hanborough.

The academy, which is part of the Eynsham Partnership Multi-Academy Trust, currently has a capacity of 210.

Under the proposal, it would start admitting 45 pupils per year instead of 30, meaning its capacity would grow to 315.

The council would provide new classrooms to accommodate the growth.

Consultation papers state: "West Oxfordshire’s adopted Local Plan includes 339 new homes already permitted in Long Hanborough, another 41 in adjacent Freeland and further 25 now permitted at Oliver’s Garage.

"A further development, for 18 homes at Riley Close, was permitted in 2014.

"The county council considers it essential for the school to expand to 1.5 form entry to ensure sufficient pupil places are available to serve the local community.

"The Eynsham Partnership Multi-Academy Trust and the governing body of Hanborough Manor CE Primary School are committed to ensuring the school can meet the needs of its local community."
