A MOTORIST was handed a six-month driving ban for using a mobile phone while driving.

Robson Tereza, 40, of Fairfax Centre, Kidlington, was given the ban after he was caught driving while using a phone on the M40 near Ardley on March 12.

At Oxford Magistrates' Court last month he was fined £220 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £30 and court costs of £85.

He was also disqualified from driving for six months.

The court said the driving ban was 'obligatory due to repeat offending'.

First offences for using a phone at the wheel typically result in six penalty points as well as a £200 fine.
