A HIGH street bank will be bringing the shutters down for a couple of weeks to carry out a high-tech revamp.

Santander in Headington, which is on the row of shops on London Road, will close this evening and is expected to reopen in mid-November.

Though an official opening date has not yet been announced, the branch will need enough time to shift the outside ATM to the left, and install new digital boards.

The hole in the wall will be moved to make space for the 46-inch digital posters – which will replace the current paper versions.

The screen will show a series of images which will change intermittently, without any sound.

In the original plans, which were approved by Oxford City Council in August, the bank's bosses said: "Santander’s objective is that they should be viewed just as a poster would be, but with the added benefit of being better for the environment, can display a range of local information and will be easier to update remotely."

The temporary closure comes weeks after Lloyds bank announced it would be scaling back its high-street presence by shutting down the Headington branch.

The chain said it would be closing after more customers switched to digital banking instead.
