DID we perhaps get a little carried away and set the ‘autumn’ theme too early this year?

Maybe.

But in our defence Camera Club has risen to the challenge admirably, and besides, supermarkets have had their Christmas stuff out for weeks so we’re hardly the worst offender.

A quintessential part of the autumnal season is the changing colour of leaves into a sea of fiery shades.

While this process is still in its early stages, the start of the transformation was captured in many submissions.

We loved Sarah Mason’s image of a child standing among trees as orange leaves fall around her.

The blurred foliage is caught at the perfect moment to not obscure the young girl.

Another stand out shot was Shez McKechnie's snap of a dog with their nose buried in a pile of crunchy leaves taken at ground level.

Bicester Advertiser:

Branches brimming with bright red leaves, meanwhile, can be seen in Steve Clarke's striking shot.

It wasn't just flora that showcased the season in nature, with several stunning images of fungi among our favourites.

Bicester Advertiser:

This included a shot of twin mushrooms growing in a patch of light on a forrest floor by Kevin James Bywater and a bed of crinkle-capped mushrooms at Cutteslowe Park by Thela Ali.

A pair of squirrel snaps also impressed and we loved Simon Logan's image of a rare albino version of the creature.

Bicester Advertiser:

We also enjoyed Ian Jones' photograph of a squirrel with a large walnut in its mouth.

Finally we loved Bryan Robertson's shot of the Oxfordshire countryside at night, with the view partly illuminated by light pollution from nearby Witney.

Bicester Advertiser:

For those looking for another chance to capture autumn scenes Mr Robertson has organised what is turning into an annual tradition for the Camera Club – a walk along the Oxford canal path.
