FAMILIES celebrated the autumnal season on Sunday at a village apple event.

Organised by Langford Community Orchard Group, people enjoyed chopped, crushed and squeezed apples all to celebrate the fruit's harvest.

Held at the community orchard on Dunlin Court in Langford, near Bicester, local volunteers helped out all afternoon to produce gallons of juice to share.

Children helped to crush apples and were delighted to taste the fresh, pure juice as a reward for their hard work.

Apples were picked from the orchard and people also brought their own apple harvest to share out.

There was also an apple variety guessing game, apple bobbing, leaf and flower printing and bird-feeder making, all run by local residents.

Volunteer David Moore led people on tours of the Orchard to explain its history and show the different areas of planting.

Succulent fruit kebabs were provided by Healthy Bicester and Delhish, the award winning vegan and vegetarian restaurant in Bicester, provided samosas and apple fritters for people to enjoy.

The cake stall run by Phyl Nicholas, Claudia Taylor and Elizabeth Bradley was busy all afternoon and raised over £100 to fund the community group's activities.

Pam Roberts, who is part of the group, was pleased with the turnout and community spirit at the event.

She said: "Thank you to each and everyone for the fantastic effort and support that you gave to make Apple Day so enjoyable for so many visitors and Orchard friends and neighbours.

"The Orchard looked gorgeous and it was lovely to see so many families interested to explore it in the sunshine and wandering round the stalls enjoying all we were offering in the way of apple juice, food, fruit and activities.

"Love for the planet and celebration of its bounty were manifest today in a perfect way."
