POLICE have opened a new beach hut in a bid to boost safety on the seafront.
The Lookout has opened on Brighton beach, and will be used along with Brighton and Hove City Council, the seafront team and beach patrol, RNLI lifeboat volunteers, and the fire and rescue service.
It has been set up near the carousel and fishing museum in Brighton.
Police officers will be at the hut on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, the force said.
Brighton Divisional Commander Chief Superintendent Nick May said it was an “innovative” way to prevent problems and issues on the busy beach.
The Chief Superintendent said: “It provides a high visibility presence and is open in time for the Fresher’s Week events this month.
“This will see lots of young adults who have left home for the first time, starting university in Brighton and visiting the city’s pubs, bars and clubs and the beach.”
