A MAN on trial for allegedly kicking a festival goer in the head during a brawl has been cleared of any wrong-doing.

Tom Aldworth, of Miles East, Didcot, went to trial at Oxford Crown Court this week charged with one count of inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Prosecutors had claimed that the 34-year-old kicked Alan Lobb in the head during a fight at Wallingford's Bunkfest music festival on September 2, 2017.

Yesterday as his trial came to an end jurors took four hours to find him not guilty of the single count and Mr Aldworth was released from the dock.

During the trial jurors were told that the incident began with an earlier altercation at a nearby pub.

This then led, prosecutors claimed, to a brawl at the festival site in which Aldworth ‘from a distance of about 10 yards’ was claimed to have kicked his victim ‘forcibly to the head.’

Jurors were told that eyewitnesses went on to describe the kick to Mr Lobb’s head as like ‘kicking a penalty’.

From the witness box Mr Aldworth denied any wrong-doing and said that he had only struck the blow to stop the violence.

He told jurors that the fight at the festival centred around Mr Lobb and Aldworth's friend and said that Mr Lobb was the aggressor.

Speaking of the immediate aftermath he said that he 'froze' and he was 'shocked' at what had happened.
