DEFENDING champions Saxton Rovers fell to a 3-2 defeat as Long Wittenham’s second-half surge sank the Abingdon side, writes RICHARD UNDERWOOD.

After a goalless first half, Niall Hodgkins put the Division 1 title holders in front, before Wittenham levelled when Saxton keeper Jack Absolom fumbled a long ball into his own net.

Joe Cheong fired Wittenham ahead, then netted his second to make it 3-1.

Ollie Nadin reduced the arrears, but Wittenham held on.

Hagbourne United made it two wins from two with a 6-0 victory over Sutton Courtenay.

Kieran Cooper hit a hat-trick, with Adam Lee, Lewis Noble and Jake Lee also on target.

In Division 2, Grove Rangers hammered Lambourn Sports Res 5-0 with goals from Joe Ledbury, Jonny James, Gavin Jones, Chris Hogan and Oliver O’Hanlon.

Dorchester edged out Marcham 2-1.

Joseph Perris put Marcham in front, but goals from Jordan Lyne and Chris Winstone gave Dorchester the points.

Benson Lions started their Division 3 season with a bang, thrashing North Oxford Res 9-0. Dane Hine hit a hat-trick, with Tom Hobbs and Paul Styman both scoring twice.

Lee Dixon and Lewis Bines completed the rout.

Oxfordshire Senior League

Hanborough are the early Premier Division leaders.

Josh Brookes and Connor Henderson were on target in a 2-0 win at Yarnton, maintaing their 100 per cent record.

Ricardo Benjamin bagged a brace as Chesterton beat Charlton United 3-0.

Ben Walker added the third as the hosts recorded their first victory of the season.

Horspath also broke their duck with a 3-0 win over Bicester United, who suffered their first defeat.

Callum Green, Jonathon Roberts and Matheus Medeiros were on target.

Kennington Athletic drew 0-0 with Garsington, while the game between Launton Sports and Mansfield Road also ended goalless.

Goals from Milo Mugatroyd and Thomas Holmes helped Summertown Stars beat Freeland 2-0.

Marcelo Guilherme and Tiago Pita both hit doubles as Lusitanos Oxford beat Kennington Athletic Res 5-1 in Division 1.

Jorge Tabaio added No 5, Thomas Briggs replying.

Chalgrove and Kidlington A drew 2-2.

John Clarke and Tom Clarke scored for the hosts, with Jamie Fisher and Ebrima Saidy replying for Kidlington.

Chesterton Res ran out 3-0 winners at Charlton United Res in Division 2.

Glenn Holmes, Alex Ryan and Christopher Young were on target.

Strikes from Leyton Brandon (2), Bradley Boodell, Lewis Ryan and Adrian Babei gave Garsington Res a 5-1 win over Yarnton Res, for whom Martin Ognyanov netted.

Tom Jones bagged a brace as Heyford Athletic Res defeated Mansfield Road Res 2-0.

Witney & District FA

TOWER Hill and Carterton Town A battled out a 1-1 draw as the Premier Division got under way.

Luke James netted for Tower Hill, but a strike from Dave Wanless earned Carterton a share of the spoils.

In Division 1, Chris Laurence bagged a hat-trick to help Bampton United to a 5-2 win at home to Bourton Rovers.

Jake Pritchard and Daniel Paintin were also on the mark, with Alex Winter and Adam Webley replying.

Hailey’s first match back in the division ended with a 1-1 draw with Witney Royals.

Daniel King returned from two seasons out by opening the scoring for the hosts.

But Miles Roberts levelled to earn Royals a point.

Siege FC beat Eynsham SSC 6-1 in Division 2.

Gez Morgan and Dave Cross both bagged braces, with Kev Lewis and Sam Thompson scoring the others, while Stephen Chappel replied.

In Division 3, Bletchingdon went one better, with a 7-2 win at Aston.

Richard Wells led the way with a hat-trick, with further goals coming from Jimmy Deabill, Michael Trafford, Joe Brewer and Chris Fennell.

Nick Angus and David Hambridge replied for Aston.

Oxford City FA

Oxford Irish opened their Oxford City FA season with a 3-2 victory at East Oxford.

A double from Tadhg Murphy and strike from Matty Short was enough to secure the points.

East Oxford hit back through Scott Radbone and Jesus Pato, but it was not enough.

Summertown Stars and Masons Arms fought out a 3-3 draw.

Shane Vanderlowen, Jared Smile and Alex Thompson were on target for Stars, with Lewis Moss, Jonnie Green and Tim Small ensuring Masons left with a share of the spoils.

Oxford Leys thrashed Union Street 6-1.
