A CHILD rapist who groomed a 12-year-old girl before travelling to her Bicester home and sexually abusing her has been jailed.

Predator Michael McArthur, of Benedon Road, Birmingham, purported to be a 15-year-old boy when he met his child victim on online gaming service Avakin and then messaging application Kik.

In fact McArthur was really a 29-year-old paedophile who had 'groomed' his victim before ultimately raping her once at her home and once in a local park in October last year.

McArthur had already admitted two counts of rape of a child and two of digital penetration of a child.

He also admitted two separate counts of attempts of sexual communication with a child and attempting to meet her in relation to a sting by so-called paedo hunters which happened some months later.

Oxford Crown Court heard at his sentencing hearing yesterday how McArthur initially met his child victim online before agreeing to come to Bicester to meet her.

While there McArthur waited outside the girl's home for her mother to leave before going inside and sexually abusing her before carrying out the rape.

Later the pair went to Garth Park where he sexually abused and raped her for a second time.

The court heard that during the attack the victim told McArthur she was in pain and asked him to stop. He had also earlier told her 'age was just a number.'

It was also revealed that after leaving Bicester having abused the child McArthur contacted the girl's mother and told her he 'loved' her daughter.

McArthur was also sentenced for another offence in which he was snared by a group of so-called paedo hunters who created a fictitious child called Layla on social media to speak with him.

A meet-up in Blackpool was arranged and when McArthur arrived he was met with members of the group instead and the police were contacted.

In mitigation at yesterday's hearing Gareth James said that while the victim in the rape case was a child she was not 'particularly vulnerable.'

Sentencing Judge Peter Ross jailed McArthur for a total of 12 years and he was made subject to a further five years of extended licence and must sign the sex offenders register for life.
