A KEY route into Oxford is severely congested today due to ongoing roadworks.
More than two miles of traffic formed on the westbound A40 outside Thornhill Park and Ride, with motorists queuing all the way back past Wheatley.

Oxfordshire County Council said there are lane closures and speed restrictions in place between the park and ride and Headington Roundabout, warning of 'slow-moving queues.'

Traffic sensors suggest there are delays of almost half an hour.
The council began £1m worth of resurfacing and maintenance on the road on Monday, and the work is expected to last up to four weeks.
A statement released by the council said: "Although there will be disruption during this period, it is hoped that the new surface will not need further structural maintenance for many years to come.

"The county council has designed the traffic management to minimise the impact on residents, businesses and all road users affected by these works.
"Delays are likely throughout the works and everyone is being asked to review their daily route, mode of transport and time of travel and where possible consider alternatives."
As well as resurfacing, there will be drainage repairs, duct installation and new kerb installation.
The council will also formally close the gap in the central reservation at Collingwood Road, with new kerbs to prevent 'unsafe traffic movements.'
