THREE parks in Oxfordshire have been nominated as the UK's best, but we want to know which is your favourite in the county?

Two parks in Oxford and one in Wallingford have been nominated alongside 30 others in the south east vying for the title of the UK's best park or green space.

The Fields in Trust group is calling on people to vote for the best 'green lungs of the community' in the 2019 poll.

Florence Park in East Oxford, and Cutteslowe Park in Harbord Road, north Oxford, are the only city parks in Oxford to have been nominated. Then Berinsfield Field in Lay Avenue, Wallingford, is the only other nomination from the county.

The three go up against 361 other green spaces for the title and now will be put to the public vote.

Fields in Trust chief executive Helen Griffiths said: “Our parks and green spaces are a vital part of UK community infrastructure.

"We know that they provide benefits to the physical health, mental wellbeing and community connections for people that use them, so we are delighted to see a record number of nominations for the UK’s Best Park award and it is encouraging to see so many people organising picnics with neighbours to celebrate how much they love their local park.

"Fields in Trust is committed to protecting these valuable and much-loved parks and green spaces for future generations to enjoy."

As part of the nominations, Berinsfield Field is described as 'changing the village from a 1960s housing estate into a vibrant and dynamic place to live, surrounded by towering poplar trees and red kites'.

Cutteslowe Park is described in the nominations as 'Cutteslowe and Sunnymead Park is Oxford's flagship Green Flag park.

"It hosts cricket, football and rugby. There are two play areas, a splash play area, skate park, miniature railway, community woodland and wetland meadows.

"There are two sports pavilions, kiosk, and hosts Summertown Stars FC, Parkrun and a garden centre."

Then finally the East Oxford park described as 'Flo Park is at the centre of our estate and community, it is home to sports groups, meetings, dog walking, festivals, environmental groups, friendships, and serves as a place of inspiration, calm, health and mental wellbeing. Beautiful in all seasons.'

Official voting was opened on July 6 to coincide with 'Have a Field Day', an annual celebration of parks and green spaces.

There were more than 250 community-led events that brought together thousands of people across the UK for picnics with friends and neighbours to celebrate their local parks.

Fields in Trust is a UK charity that works to legally protect parks and green spaces in perpetuity. It says it recognises the importance parks play in the community including the support of mental and physical health and bringing people together.
