AN OXFORD man conquered epic 1,000km cycle from Scotland to the Isle of Wight to help young cancer patients.

Ludo Bennett-Jones, who grew up in Oxford, was among 11 riders taking on the nine-day charity challenge in support of Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust.

The 28-year-old made headlines in 2012 when, aged 21, he became the youngest and fastest person to sail a two-handed dinghy around Britain to raise money for the same trust.

He also volunteered for the charity, including as a skipper, and is now a travel specialist for Witney-based Audley Travel.

He said: “I have seen first-hand the difference the trust makes to young peoples’ lives, and the confidence it gives them, and I want to give that opportunity to more young people who are suffering from cancer.”

Mr Bennett-Jones took on the feat from Largs on Scotlands West Coast and arrived in Cowes, Isle of Wight, on May 12.

He said he enjoyed the ‘sense of achievement’ from completing a challenge of this scale, prior to this the furthest he had cycled was 80 miles in comparison to the 630.2 miles this time.

He added: “ I love a challenge, I wanted to get involved as soon as I heard about it.”

The trust works with people between age eight and 24 in rebuilding their confidence after cancer.
