IT WAS water, water everywhere this week as we poured over a flood of entries.

Animals enjoying water, be it birds peering down or a dog shaking off an adventure, were the subject of many submissions.

Anthony Morris’ photograph of a single starling causing a commotion at a bird bath was one of our favourites.

Bicester Advertiser:

The outstretched wings are caught in motion as the creature flaps and sprays water while the other birds are still, with water drops also frozen in the air.

A shot of a dog drinking by Ian Marriott also stood out, with the photographer using a homemade waterproof container for his GoPro camera to capture both above and below.

The soothing nature of water was seen in many snaps.

Bicester Advertiser:

A single curving feather reflected in a sheet of water was an example we loved by Dominika Ko.

The muted monotone image is striking in its simplicity.

We also enjoyed a single drop of water clinging to a blade of grass snapped by Denise Gurden for similar reasons.

Bicester Advertiser:

Dew drops on a blossom by Linda Robertson also showcased how stunning water can be close up.

From one extreme to the other, we loved a pair of shots that captured larger bodies of water.

The sheer scale of a frozen waterfall outside Reykjavik can be seen in the tiny figures at the bottom of the landmark in Sue Reeves' snap.

Bicester Advertiser:

We also loved a waterway picture taken just before sunrise at the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge in northern Utah by Kevin James Bywater.

Finally we couldn’t resist including a couple of more unusual interpretations of the theme.

Showing off his vinyl collection, John Percival submitted an image of Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel.

Becca Collacott, meanwhile, rather than seeking inspiration from nature took a colourful snap of pencils submerged in water with bubbles clinging to the writing implements.

Next week’s theme is ‘village life’.
