DRIVERS are facing long delays after a multi-vehicle crash on the A34 near Oxford.

The collision happened shortly before 4pm between the Botley and Pear Tree interchanges, blocking both lanes of the carriageway.

All lanes have now reopened but 'residual delays' remain, with traffic backing up across Oxford and Botley Road at a standstill. Police and ambulance crews attended the incident but have now left the scene.

A South Central Ambulance spokesperson confirmed two crews and one ambulance officer were called to an incident involving four vehicles - a lorry and three cars -on the A34 northbound, heading towards Pear Tree.

SCAS received the call at 3.58pm, with the ambulance service expecting to be able to confirm more details shortly.

Drivers are being warned to find alternative routes, with traffic at one point backing up beyond the Abingdon North junction.

Meanwhile, Oxford Bus Company said the crash was having a 'severe impact on Botley Road/Frideswide Square and Woodstock Road'.

Services along these routes are currently delayed by about 20 minutes.

Stagecoach also said it was experiencing delays on its S1, S3 and S9 services.
