HUNDREDS of retro cars revved through the streets of Wallingford for the town’s annual rally and parade.

Motoring enthusiasts were treated to a parade through the town from 10.30am on Sunday.

The impressive selection of vehicles started at Wallingford Sports Park in Hithercroft Road, before being driven to the Kinecroft, where they stayed until about 5pm.

The Wallingford Vehicle Rally is a firm favourite in the town calendar and is open to ‘all classic, custom and interesting vehicles from bicycles to tank transporters’.

The event starts with a parade of all vehicles through the historic market town to the display field on the Kinecroft.

The owners of the vehicles are encouraged to show their vehicles in the display ring and to talk to visitors to the event. Trade and charity stands are also welcome.

The celebration raises thousands of pounds for local charities and good causes.

Last year organisers donated £18,000 to organisations and charities including Wallingford Scouts, The Corn Exchange, Riding For The Disabled, SeeSaw, MacMillan and Wallingford Fire Service.

In 2018 the event passed the £100,000 mark of funds raised for local good causes since the event began.

Mark Brett, one of the event organisers, said the 15th annual rally was a great success, featuring 350 vehicles.

He added: “The weather was kind and thousands of people came out to support us - people were standing four or five-deep to watch the parade.

“Drivers came from lots of different locations to take part, including Sussex and Milton Keynes. Once again we raised lots of money for local good causes and we are hoping to beat last year’s total. We’re in good shape for next year.”
