NEIGHBOURS of a social club which wants to sell alcohol for longer at weekends say they have had needles and bottles thrown into their gardens.

The New Club in Wheatley previously asked for permission to sell alcohol until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays but people living nearby were opposed.

The Blenheim Lane establishment now wants to sell alcohol until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

One person, whose name is not listed in their comment over the application, said the club was often a ‘model neighbour’, but said there could be problems caused by visitors ‘with late night noise and anti-social behaviour’ at weekends.

Oxford Mail:

They added in a comment sent to South Oxfordshire District Council: “We have seen glass, bottles, general litter and needles left by patrons both outside the club on their premises and thrown into neighbouring properties.

“Our concern is that by extending the drinking hours this will further exacerbate this issue.”

Seven people said they were opposed to the 1am change.

Wheatley Parish Council was initially opposed to the application to, but said it was not opposed to the club selling alcohol until midnight.

The decision on whether the club will be allowed to sell alcohol until midnight will be made next Thursday.
