FIERY sunsets, swirling star trails and bizarre cloud formations feature this week as Camera Club looks up.

With the sky forming an integral part of so many spectacular photographs from members we thought it deserved a chance in the spotlight with a week dedicated to sky-centric snaps.

Bicester Advertiser:

Many entries focused on sunrises and sunsets, the intense colours making for dramatic images.

Some of our favourites included a silhouetted figure drinking from a bottle against an orange and purple background by Allen Dannfald and the spectacular colours in a Florida sky captured by Bob Sherlock.

We also loved the pinks and oranges reflected in a row of greenhouses in a stunning shot by Sarah Nice that earns extra points for doing something a little different with the theme.

Another similar snap we enjoyed was a blue sky sporting a single fluffy white cloud outlined by a pink frame in Liza Widdowson's submission.

Clouds were another common feature, curious formations catching our attention in Jim Jutton's image of Bamburgh Castle under a lenticular cloud taken in Northumberland last year, and a pretty vertical plane contrail tinged in warm pastel hues by Shez Honour.

Bicester Advertiser:

Sue Dickinson's daughter Kyley, meanwhile, managed to capture the unusual mammatus clouds in a grey Oxfordshire sky.

For simple beauty we also adored Darrell Godliman’s shot from a cafe overlooking the Jemaa El-Fa square in the centre of Marrakech.

The stunning clouds lit be the sun look like a ceiling painted by a Renaissance master.

Bicester Advertiser:

Big billowy clouds, meanwhile, rumble above rapeseed fields in West Oxfordshire in a striking shot by Kevin James Bywater.

It wasn't all about the day though and we also had several snaps of star-filled night skies.

Our favourite was a swirling trail of the celestial objects above Brill windmill by Sean Dunlop.

Bicester Advertiser:

Finally we loved a unique view of Jericho from above in Simon Logan's peculiar picture. Rather than being above the ground, the sky actually surrounds the buildings and train station.

Next week’s theme is 'contrast'.
