A TEENAGE drug dealer twice tried to escape police, first running off at arrest, before slipping off his handcuffs at the police station and trying to jump a wall.

Despite his best efforts to escape justice Tyrese Jones, of Windmill Road, Oxford, was finally remanded into custody.

He went on to admit two counts of possession with intent to supply crack cocaine and heroin and possession with intent to supply cannabis, as well as possession of cannabis and possessing criminal property.

The 19-year also admitted at Oxford Crown Court on Thursday two counts of resisting arrest in relation to his failed escape bids on October 13 last year.

Detailing events prosecutor Kellie Enever said that Jones was spotted by police driving a Vauxhall Corsa in the Cowley area of the city ahead of his arrest.

Police became suspicious as they had previously seen Jones driving the car without a driving licence, and he was subsequently stopped.

While officers were leading him to the police car Jones ran off, the court heard, and was chased through the area before he was stopped at Barns Road and taken to Abingdon police station.

While there, the court heard, he managed to slip one hand free of his handcuffs and ran out across the station car park and tried unsuccessfully to escape by jumping a wall.

A later search which took place at his home yielded a haul of cannabis collected inside a carrier bag which carried a street value of about £1,400.

Prosecutors also revealed to the court an earlier incident when Jones was arrested by police and found to be in possession of quantities of crack cocaine and heroin, consistent with supply, on August 8 2017.

In mitigation at the sentencing hearing, his defence barrister Gordana Turudija-Austin said that her client had only dealt the drugs in order to pay off a drugs debt he had accrued for buying cannabis.

Jones was jailed by Judge Peter Ross for a total of four years.
