ONE of Oxfordshire's oldest secondary schools is planning a major expansion.

Wallingford School, founded in 1659, has revealed plans to build a large new block in its grounds with 20 new 'teaching spaces' which will allow the school to take two whole extra classes per year.

In a planning application to South Oxfordshire District Council, the school said: "The local population is expected to increase dramatically in the coming years following the expansion of South Oxfordshire’s housing provision within the School’s catchment area.

"Oxford County Council therefore approached Wallingford School with the proposal of providing new teaching accommodation should the school be willing to admit an additional one or two forms of entry from the 2018/19 school year onwards."
