COUNCIL gritters will be back out in force from 7pm with the amber snow warning in place until 11am tomorrow.

Oxfordshire County Council gritters were salting roads throughout last night to keep major routes clear, with each route taking around three hours to complete.

Like last night, gritters will be out across all three 'salting zones' tonight which includes the Cotswolds (North zone); Central Oxfordshire (Central zone - including the city of Oxford shown below); and the Chilterns and North Wessex Downs (South zone).

The fleet, which has snow ploughs attached for the first time this winter, made several runs to grit all A-roads, B-roads as well as some C-roads.

The gritting network covers around 43 per cent of Oxfordshire's roads.

Routes selected for gritting include roads which carry large volumes of traffic; main bus routes; or those which provide access to hospitals fire stations or other key facilities, and usually take around three hours to complete.
