BEREAVED parents who channelled the heartache of losing their baby boy Oscar into creating a charity are now marking its fifth anniversary.

Hannah and David Cole, from Kirtlington near Bicester, were left heart broken when Oscar died suddenly on June 19, 2014.

The one-year-old contracted Encephalitis, a rare condition that causes inflammation of the brain, and died of a brain injury at the Oxford Children’s Hospital.

In their son’s memory, the pair set up the charity Thinking of Oscar and has been raising funds to support children’s healthcare in Oxfordshire.

As the charity marks its fifth year in 2019, Mr and Mrs Cole have launched a major fundraising challenge of cycling 500 miles in five days - and raising £500,000.

The #TOO500 event will set off from Oxford Children’s Hospital on June 12 and stop off at a number of other children’s hospitals it is supporting.

It includes Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, Sheffield Children’s Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The pair are now campaigning to sign up as many people as possible to take on the challenge for the charity, whether that’s for one leg or the whole 500 miles.

Previous funds raised by the charity have helped hospital buy vein finding equipment, and super hero kits for children in hospital.
