A ROAD in Bicester that closed yesterday after it was flooded by a burst water main could open as early as tomorrow evening.

Thames Water is hoping to reopen Bucknell Road, Bicester, 'late on Friday or early Saturday', after completing repairs earlier than expected.

Four homes experienced 'minor flooding', according to the water company, with police closing the road after the pipe burst yesterday morning.

Witnesses said huge streams of water gushed out onto the road after the pipe burst underneath the Bucknell Road Railway bridge.

Thames Water spokesperson Abby Turner said: “We’ve completed our repairs to the pipe earlier than anticipated and will begin resurfacing the road tomorrow.

"We hope to be able to reopen it late on Friday or early Saturday.

"We’re sorry for any disruption caused and would like to thank customers for their patience while we work hard to get everything back to normal.”

Bicester Advertiser:

The burst was to a nine-inch diameter pipe, with firefighters from Bicester and Eynsham working with Thames Valley Police and Thames Water to fix the issue yesterday.

Some houses in the OX26 area had 'no water or low pressure' due to the burst pipe, but the water company said supplies were restored to affected customers within a few hours.
