OXFORD University Hospitals (OUH) has revealed the appointment of its new chairman.

Professor Jonathan Montgomery will take on the role in March, replacing Dame Fiona Caldicott.

The appointment was made by the council of governors on Monday.

Prof Montgomery is professor of Healthcare Law at University College London (UCL) and chair of the Health Research Authority, which protects and promotes the interests of the public in health research.

Prof Montgomery, who served on local NHS boards in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight for more than 20 years up to March 2013, said: “I see the positive partnership between the board and our governors as a real strength as we move forward.

“The NHS in Oxfordshire faces significant challenges but there are great opportunities and I am looking forward to working alongside patients, staff, and our key partners and stakeholders in the local health and care system so that together we can shape a bright future to benefit the people we serve.”

Vice chair at OUH Anne Tutt, said she was delighted to welcome him to the trust.

She added: “I am confident that Jonathan has the leadership and skills to guide our organisation and I look forward to working with him. I am sure that our staff, governors and patients will give him a warm welcome when he takes up his post in the new year.”
