THE same group that blocked Botley Road in Oxford a fortnight ago campaigned outside the county council’s headquarters calling for a pension scheme to ditch investments in oil companies.
Oxford Extinction Rebellion called on the Oxfordshire Pension Fund, which is administered by Oxfordshire County Council, to pull money out of fossil fuel companies.
The group said the fund has investments worth £132m in fossil fuel companies.
About 200 members of the fund, along with another 1,200 members of the public, have called on the fund to pull its money.
Sarah Lasenby, a member of the fund, said: “We are being serious in a playful way this morning but we won’t stand by and let these reckless investment practices continue.
She added: “Oxfordshire must follow the lead of other local government pension schemes like Waltham Forest and Islington and ditch holdings in filthy fossil fuels at the first opportunity.”
