THOUSANDS across Oxfordshire have taken part in services, tributes and creative projects to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War on November 11.

So when we set Camera Club the theme of 'remembering' this week there was only really one thing on members' minds.

Impressive entries have ranged from black and white images capturing soldiers and veterans taking part in Sunday's Armistice Day events, to personal tributes produced by members.

Poppies feature prominently in many shots with Matt Hancock's image of row after row of poppy markers for fallen soldiers at Menin Gate, Ypres on Remembrance Sunday particularly poignant.

Another memorial image that captured our attention was Mark Bentley's shot of Eynsham Fire Station's powerful tribute to the centenary.

The red doors of the station have had a pair of silhouetted soldiers added facing each other with heads bowed.

We also really liked an image by Diane Braggs of the Tyne Cot Memorial, West Vlaanderen, Belgium. Among the list of fallen soldier from the First World War she is focused on Sergeant Victor C Binding, who died on 9 October 1917 and was a great uncle of her husband.

The photograph brings theme of 'remembering' down to a more personal level.

Remembering all the animals that have lost their lives in conflict, Helen Newman, meanwhile, submitted a picture of her black dog wearing a poppy.

Finally, one of our favourite shots this week came from Peter Silver.

The stunning snap shows a lit beacon at Fringford on Remembrance Sunday. It was one of more than a thousand lit across the country at 7pm to symbolise the message being spread that war was over and peace had returned.

The atmospheric photograph shows bright flames bursting from the beacon, with a red-toned sky in the background.

After a couple of fun and then a more solemn occasion we are going with something broader next week to take advantage of how glorious Oxfordshire is looking this autumn.

The theme is 'nature' and we look forward to seeing your photographs.
