BUSINESS is continuing to hot up for Covered Market ice cream seller Graham MacDonald.

The director of the Covered Market Traders’ Association and owner of iScream & Wicked Chocolate gelateria said customers have been queuing up to keep cool with one of his sweet icy treats as temperatures as temperatures continue to rise.

Some forecasters say the mercury could rise to 25C by Thursday as Indian Summer-style weather continues.

Mr MacDonald said: “The weather this summer has been incredibly good for us and we are so grateful.

“Lots of customers are coming in for an ice cream and you never know who is going to walk in - we had that film star Jeremy Irons asking for a cone - I think he lives locally.”

Last month Mr MacDonald said a retail study indicating that footfall at the historic market was up on average by five per cent since 2012 was ‘encouraging’.

He is one of several new directors of the Covered Market Tenants Association who are working with landlords the city council to ensure it remains a key retail attraction.

The council is investing in improvements, including dividing up empty units to make them more attractive to businesses.

The UK is basking in October sunshine as warm tropical maritime air comes in from the Canary Islands and the Azores.

But the Met Office is predicting that a period of low pressure will push in from Friday, meaning the weather will turn “potentially stormy, with further spells of rain”.

That could mean rain for Princess Eugenie’s wedding to Jack Brooksbank on Friday at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.

The Met Office said the weather in Oxford today would be”mostly sunny and very warm”, with maximum temperatures of 23C.
