A MUSEUM curated by young adults captured the hearts of its visitors as it told stories of kindness from Bicester’s history.

Members of Bicester-based youth charity OYAP Trust have been diving into the history books and trawling through artefacts that represent acts of kindness in the town.

The objects, big and small, were curated to create Bicester’s first ‘pop-up kindness museum’ at The Studio in Crown Walk as part of a project to bring more culture to the town.

The collection, which members of the public were invited to add to, included a number of items, such as a baby box from Yarnton and baby clothes, which were chosen by the young adults and displayed.

Project co-ordinator Carmen Hoepper said: "We linked up with Oxfordshire Museums Service and we thought it would be a good idea if young people looked at the theme of local acts of kindness.

"We looked closely at the concept of kindness by looking at different items including the baby box from Yarnton, featuring clothing and gifts for a baby.

"Inside the lid of the box there is a sticker which showed the box was a special gift.

"The historical objects start a conversation about kindness, which is a more complex subject than you might think."

There were also activities including arts crafts which Holly Peabody, 15, and Marcus Purnell-Spector, 17, got stuck into, helping to create a tapestry about kindness.

The pop-up museum was supported by Oxfordshire County Council Museums Service and included a visit for the young people involved to The Museum Resource Centre in Standlake.

The collection will also be taken to a retirement complex in Bicester to allow for residents to chat with young people.

The idea was part of the Oxfordshire County Collections Project and was funded by Arts Council England.

OYAP Trust was previously Oxfordshire Youth Arts Partnership.
