THEY were pushing penguins rather than picking them up at Wyevale Garden Centre’s ice rink in Bicester.

Pictured enjoying the ice last Friday are four-year-old Maggie Kennedy and her mum Anna, having fun with one of the many toys laid on to help little ones navigate the glossy square.

The popular family attraction will be in place until January 3, featuring skate aids, lessons, and weekly ice discos for children.

Manager Tom Mcnamara said: “It’s a unique Christmas family fun experience. It is always very popular at this time of year.”

Children under 12 can enjoy the ice music extravaganza from 4pm to 6pm, with over-12s allowed on the ice between 6pm and 8pm.

For those wanting to sit out of the cold, festive snacks will be on offer, with mulled wine for the adults.

There is also the opportunity to buy a Skate and Dine ticket, to combine ice skating with a meal at the garden centre’s restaurant.
