A COUNCIL has agreed a multi-million pound price to buy surplus MoD land that could become the country’s largest self-build project.
Cherwell District Council looks set to become the new owner and developer of Bicester’s Graven Hill, which was given planning permission for 1,900 homes, shops, a pub/restaurant/hotel, community hall and businesses last month.
It comes after months of talks between the council and Government.
The council cannot say how much it is buying the site for, but has said it will now look at funding options, which could include using some of its reserves.
Debbie Pickford, Cherwell’s lead member for housing, said the site was a “fabulous” opportunity for Bicester.
