The location

The spelling of this name in 803 was Forscanfeld but It is originally from two Saxon words forsc (frog) and feld (open country). A charter of 788 mentions a stream in the vicinity called Forscaburna, frog stream. This may suggest that the original meaning of the place-name was open country by the frog-stream. It was Frossefeld in 1166 and Froxefeld in 1212. The village has an excellent and popular pub, The Pelican, and superb PreSchool Steppingstones. A Michelin star restaurant is in the next village of Little Bedwyn and all major facilities can be found in Hungerford, or Marlborough both within 10 minutes drive. St Katherine's primary School in Savernake is also in catchment for St Johns Secondary school in Marlborough.

The property

The property is believed to date from around 1860 and has been subject over recent years to a comprehensive program of improvements whilst retaining it's original character and charm. As it is not listed, this has allowed double glazed windows to be installed helping to present today a fine period property which one can live in without having to compromise on creature comforts!

We walk through the front gate and along a meandering path up to the front door, into the entrance hall with utility/downstairs cloakroom straight ahead and right into the sitting room. This room overlooks the handsome front garden with views of the downs beyond, original open fireplace and the staircase rising to the first floor landing.

Continued

Turning left we walk into the kitchen/dining room with three windows overlooking the rear garden and double doors opening onto the side sun patio area. Good range of fitted wall and base units with worksurfaces over. Inset sink unit, four ring gas (LPG) hob with concealed extractor hood over and electric oven and grill. Plumbing for dishwasher and space for a fridge freezer. Space for a 4/6 seater table with handy wine rack within easy reach! Up the staircase onto the landing with access to the loft . First right into the second bedroom, a double, with two built in wardrobes and window to the rear. The third bedroom is next, again with a window to the rear, the well appointed family bathroom has a separate shower enclosure and finally into the main bedroom which enjoys a lovely view and an original fireplace.

The front garden measures over 80' in length, has a well maintained lawn, well stocked flower and shrub border, recess for bin storage(+the usual recycle boxes!) and gated access to the side and rear garden.
